Premium Epoxy Flake Coating

WHAT IS PREMIUM EPOXY FLAKE COATING?

Premium epoxy flake coating is a high-performance decorative flooring system that combines durable epoxy resin with multi-coloured vinyl flakes to create a seamless, textured, and visually striking finish. This system is widely used in garages, workshops, commercial spaces, and even interior areas due to its durability, chemical resistance, and designer appearance.

The result is a floor that’s not only tough and easy to maintain, but also stylish and customisable to suit your space.

Here are the steps involved in a premium epoxy flake coating installation:

  • Surface Preparation: The existing concrete surface is mechanically ground using industrial diamond grinders to remove contaminants, coatings, and imperfections. This creates a clean, porous surface for maximum epoxy adhesion.

  • Repairs & Patching: Cracks, holes, or damaged areas in the slab are filled and levelled with specialist patching compounds to create a smooth, even base.

  • Primer Application: A high-penetration epoxy primer is applied to seal the concrete and ensure strong adhesion of the flake system.

  • Base Coat Application: A tinted epoxy base coat is rolled out evenly across the surface. This colour serves as the background tone for your flake system and can be matched to your chosen design.

  • Flake Broadcasting: While the base coat is still wet, decorative vinyl flakes (also known as chips or flecks) are broadcast across the floor. These flakes come in a range of colours and sizes and are applied to full saturation for a textured, non-slip finish.

  • Flake Scraping & Cleanup: Once cured, excess flakes are scraped and vacuumed to remove loose material and ensure a smooth, even texture.

  • Clear Topcoat Application: A UV-stable polyaspartic or polyurethane topcoat is applied to lock in the flakes, protect the floor, and create a glossy, durable, chemical-resistant finish.

PREMIUM EPOXY FLAKE COATING VS STANDARD EPOXY COATING

Appearance

Flake coatings offer a more decorative and visually textured finish compared to standard solid-colour epoxy. The flakes come in various colour blends and can replicate the look of terrazzo, granite, or quartz, offering a designer finish suited for residential or commercial spaces.

Slip Resistance

The vinyl flakes create natural texture, increasing traction and reducing the risk of slips—especially when paired with a matte or anti-slip topcoat. This makes flake systems ideal for garages, laundries, pool surrounds, and entryways.

Durability

Both systems offer excellent durability, but premium flake coatings with polyaspartic topcoats tend to be more UV stable, scratch-resistant, and longer-lasting in high-traffic areas. They’re also more resistant to hot tire pickup and chemical spills, especially in garages.

Customisation

Standard epoxy coatings are available in a limited range of solid colours, while flake systems can be tailored with a wide array of flake colours, flake sizes, and base coat options to suit personal taste or branding.

Cost

Premium flake systems are generally slightly more expensive than standard epoxy due to the multi-layer application process and added materials. However, the improved aesthetic, longer lifespan, and added traction often make it a more cost-effective choice in the long run.
